Description
Myrinels are small, luminous flutter-beasts—part bat, part drifting fungal spore. They dwell in the bark hollows and mossy crevices of the Darnuun Spinewoods, rarely seen in full daylight, and never in numbers.
They are not pests or pets, but ambient phenomena—symbiotic forest expressions that remember things the trees forget. They are pouch-bodied, wing-splayed, and faintly glowing, with fur like wet dust and gestures that mimic wind.
They are not hunted. They are noticed.
Traits and Abilities
Ambient Lure (Passive):
Creatures within 15 feet must make a DC 12 Wisdom (Survival) check to resist following the Myrinel when it flutters away. On failure, the creature unconsciously follows for 1d4 minutes or until interrupted.
Darnuun Drift (Recharge 5–6):
The Myrinel emits a puff of glowing fungal dust. All creatures within 10 feet must succeed on a DC 11 Constitution saving throw or become lightheaded (disadvantage on Intelligence-based checks) for 1 minute.
Echo Nesting (Stealth):
While stationary in natural terrain (moss, bark, fungus), the Myrinel gains advantage on Stealth checks. When still, it visually blends with its environment and emits no sound.
Behavior
- Movement: Skitter-flit patterns with curious zig-zags
- Diet: Magical residue, fungal dust, emotional discharge
- Temperament: Playful. Wary. Impossible to bribe.
- Defensive Instinct: Emits a shrill tone that causes discomfort (no damage, but discouraging)
